MAY 4 MEET VOLUNTEER ROSTER
THE EVERGREEN HURRICANES NEEDS YOU TO GET INVOLVED!!
We are a volunteer-based organization in which the participation of each family is vital to the team’s success. To provide a high-quality swim program to the community, the Board of Directors must commit to pool time and coaching staff, and has developed a budget to cover these costs based on a projected number of participants in the program. The annual fees and monthly dues cannot cover all the costs of operating the swim team – much of the work must be done by parent volunteers. There are two sides to the volunteer opportunities: swim meets and support for general team activities.
SWIM MEETS:
A key opportunity for raising additional funds is for the team to hold swim meets. We make money from meet entry fees, and a small amount from consignments and concessions.
It takes approximately 35 people to run each session of a typical swim meet. This includes timers, runners, officials, people to work concessions, etc. Accordingly, we require one person from each family to work during the course of each meet we host. Should you have a conflict, you are responsible for finding a replacement and notifying the volunteer coordinator in writing/email/phone within 48 hours of the meet. We will assess a $50 fine (per meet) if you do not fulfill your commitment or find a substitute.
Swim meets are divided into morning and afternoon sessions. We anticipate that each family will need to cover three sessions during a two-day meet, and one session during a one-day meet. You can work a session during which your child is swimming. There are plenty of different roles to fill, and we can be flexible about the time of your commitment. This type of volunteering can be fun; it gives the swim team parents a chance to get to know eachother and builds a sense of community within the team.

There is a two day meet scheduled for February 2 & 3. We also anticipate hosting a one day Suburban League meet on November 18, and an open meet on March 16.
ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
There is a great deal that goes on behind the scenes to help keep the team running smoothly, and to coordinate extra activities which build team spirit and add to the fun and excitement for the swimmers. All of this is done by parent volunteers, and there are a variety of ways you can help out. Many of the positions can be done at home, at your convenience. Whatever your talent, we can put you to work – we need people who can design and update the website; to do data entry; to plan team events; to solicit contributions from local businesses; to order team spirit wear; and to put together the team newsletter. (just to name a few opportunties!)
