Short Course Seasons Opens with a Splash!
The team is off to a strong start with a full roster of 94 swimmers!  A warm welcome to all the new families who have joined the team.

First Home Meet a Huge Success!
Thank you to everyone who helped make our first home meet of the season a big success! A special thank-you to the following families who did more than one volunteer job:  Urban, Belz, Coughlin, Kenchel, Fleming, Goldman, Delaney, Zehnder, Easton, Pearson, Halama and Cogswell.  Thank you also to the Vincents and Schindlers; without both parents working, we would not have been able to cover your positions.  And, finally, thank you to these new families, who graciously offered to help out when I was short of workers, even though they are new to our team:  Ellison, Trindl, and VanZandt.  Mary Markey, our new Concessions Coordinator, did a fabulous job keeping everyone well fed and hydrated.  

Remember our new team policy this year: ALL families will be asked to make burritos AND do set up and tear down at one of our home meets. This will be in addition to working a specific job on the day of the meet.
 
Our next home meet is a two day event in February, on the 6th and 7th, 2011 - Superbowl Weekend. That is also high school girls' league championships, so I will be asking everyone to step up and help out to cover any volunteer shortages we may have.

Save the Date: November 10, 4:00pm
Team photos will be taken on Wednesday, November 10, at 4:00pm.  Please make every effort to be there!!  We will take a photo of the full team, and each category.  

Officials Needed
Become an official and support our team in this critical role - the stroke and turn clinic is the first step. There are several options for training sessions coming up - contact Kathy Lahr for more information (kjlahr@yahoo.com)

The team's holiday party will be held on Sunday, December 12 - please save the date.

Team Honors Deb Gomez
The board of directors made a special presentation to honor Deb Gomez, our meet referee, at the meet last Sunday.  Deb has given generously of her time for the past 14 years working as an official for the Hurricanes.  For many of those years, she has not had a swimmer on the team. We are greatly indebted to her for her support. She will be missed!

A Word From the Treasurer
October statements will be coming out within the next few days. For all new members who registered late and signed up for credit card billing, your bill will reveal your registration fees plus any other charges and we will charge credit cards this amount by October 15.

In an effort to simplify, reimbursements will be credited to your account unless they are over $150. I will not be writing checks for these unless specifically requested. Thank you.

Meet Schedule Updated
The meet schedule has been updated to include a relay meet on Sunday, October 24 at DU.  Be sure to check the schedule, and pay attention to the meet entry deadlines - you must notify Coach Jeff by the date specified, or your swimmer will be entered in the meet and you will be billed for the entry fees.

Team Communication
The website should be your first stop for up-to-the-minute information on the team - get in the habit of checking the Coaches' Blog every day or two.  This year we will be sending home fewer things via the swimmers' folders, and eliminating the team updates. Subscribe to RainedOut.com for the Evergreen Hurricanes to receive text messages and/or emails of last-minute changes.

Sopris Open: Glenwood Springs, Nov 20/21
We have reserved two blocks of rooms, which will be held until October 25.  Please call to reserve a room. Warmups start at noon on Saturday.  Rooms at the Courtyard by Marriott are $89/nt (970-947-1300) and those at the Residence Inn are $99/nt (970-928-0900).  

Next Board of Directors Meeting: October 11
Board meetings are held on the second Monday of the month from 5-6:30pm at Wulf Rec. All are welcome to attend.
