Evergreen Hurricanes Newsletter September 24, 2008

First Home Meet this Sunday!
Please have your swimmer at the pool ready for action by 7:20am.  The meet starts at 9.
We will be sending a buddy list via separate email, and the volunteer roster is posted on the website.

PARENT MEETING:  Many thanks to everyone who came to the parent meeting last week.  If you were unable to attend, make sure you get a copy of the packet that Coach Jeff distributed.  A few key points that were discussed include:

Invoices:  You will be invoiced monthly via email and can pay by check, visa, or mastercard.  If you have any questions about your invoice or payment options, please contact our treasurer, Caryn Pearson (pearsoncabin@earthlink.net)

Budget:  The board presented the team budget for 2008/09.  If you wish to see a copy, contact Susan McDonald (smomcd@speedtrail.net)

Parents of New Swimmers:  If you feel like you are "in over your head" please feel free to call or email Susan McDonald or Kathy Lahr, or any board member. As with any new commitment, it takes a while to get up to speed on all the terms and obligations.  If any family feels like their swimmer has had a change of heart and would like to withdraw from the program, you can withdraw by this Friday, Sept 26, and we will refund your payment less a $50 processing fee.

Volunteering:  Every family has an obligation to help out in some way with each home meet that the team hosts. We send out the volunteer roster and post it on the website.  If you are unable to complete your assignment, it is your responsibility to make arrangements to switch with another parent.  It takes a great deal of effort to run a meet, but if everyone does their part, things go smoothly - please don't leave us to discover a gap in the roster at the last minute.

Health Issues:  If your child has any significant health issue that might present itself at practice or a meet, please contact Kathy Lahr (kjlahr@peekanet.com) to discuss it with her.  We want to be certain we have a plan of care in case a medical need arises while your child is involved in a team activity.

Team Clothing:  Please order your team suit from the LifeGuard Store, and see Coach Jeff to order team tshirts if you haven't yet done so.

Meet Entry Policy:  Make sure you mark your calendars with the meet entry deadlines that are on the team calendar (which your swimmer receives a hard copy of each month, and is also posted on our website). You must email Coach Jeff (jarm003@yahoo.com) by the deadline to let him know if your swimmer will not be able to participate.  If Coach Jeff does not hear from you, he will assume your swimmer will be available to swim in each day of the meet. Your swimmer will be entered in the meet and you will be billed for the entry fees.

Lizzy Ruddy graduated from Boston College in May 2008 with a BA in Fine Arts.  She played water polo for BC and has swum competitively since she was five.  Lizzy has been the coach for Mt. Vernon Country Club's team for the past four summers and is excited to help out with the Hurricanes this fall.

We are always looking for parents who are willing to train to become officials.  There are training opportunities coming up soon - contact Kathy Lahr (kjlahr@peekanet.com) if you want to talk about what is involved.  CSI offers training at their annual meeting, the Swimposium, mentioned below.

Colorado Swimming (CSI) is hosting their annual Swimposium on October 4 and 5th at the Denver North Doubletree Hotel.  They offer a variety of clinics for parents, swimmers, and potential officials throughout the weekend.  Click here for swimposium information.

Can you guess who this is?
