Evergreen Hurricanes Newsletter June 20, 2008

We're thrilled to report that our registration numbers are huge for the summer season, topping out at 59 swimmers! Welcome to our newest members: Lydia Daniels, Michael Feller, Amanda Funk, Tristan Greve, Maggie McDonald, Allie Seracuse, Micayla and Tylin Stiller, and Hailey Walsh.  Welcome back to some former members:  Aaron Anzell-Morris, Christian and Maggie Bachrodt, Katie and Mitch Kilgore, Anne Latimer, Maddie Sherman, Brandon Stenger, and Sean Story.
The BOD has worked diligently to develop a budget that meets the needs of the team while keeping fees at a manageable rate for families.  We are pleased to report that there will be no actual fee increases  for the upcoming year.  However, we have made some slight changes to how and when fees will be collected:  a free month of dues will be offered instead of a 10% discount to those families who choose to pay in full; families who choose the trimester plan will make their payments in Sept., Nov., and Jan. rather than in Sept., Dec., and Feb.; and, regardless of the payment plan selected, all family and pool fees will be paid at the time of registration (last year trimester families had these fees split into 3 equal payments).           As in the past, 3 payment options will be available for our members:  full payment, trimester, and monthly; and, high school swimmers will not have to pay monthly dues during high school swim season.  Cash, check, and credit card options will also be available.  Families will be able to pick up their 2009 fee calculators at the July AGM, or from their swimmers' folders at the pool after July 17th.  Registration for the 2009 season will take place September 8-12 during swim practices.  Please watch the website for additional updates about registration as they become available.
FINANCIAL AID PROGRAM                           The BOD has been asked to consider developing some type of financial aid program for our members who want to keep their kids swimming but are experiencing financial difficulties.  We are currently working on a response to this request that would help defer some of the costs of membership on our team.  We hope to have this program available to launch in September.  Please contact a Board member if you know of a company or individual who might be a potential donor.  More details to come as they are available.
COACH JEFF SIGNS ON FOR THREE MORE YEARS !!   The BOD and Coach Jeff came to agreement last week on a 3 year contract extension.  We are extremely pleased with the current team situation, and are excited to know that Coach Jeff will continue to develop our swimmers and grow the team.
Congratulations to Lexie Malazdrewicz for getting a Sectionals cut for the 1500 free!! Lexie swam the race in 19:05:36 at the North JeffCo meet this past weekend. WOW!
HAVE YOU MET OUR NEW SUMMER COACHES?  Coach Jeff has hired two college students to help with our team through the end of July.
Kyle Bachrodt is 19 years old and currently a sophmore at the University of Colorado.  He graduated class of '07 from Conifer High School. He swam for the high school team all 4 years and also was a member of our club for many years.  He is looking forward to coaching the kids this summer and getting to know their parents.
Marie Gomez is 22 years old, and currently enrolled at Metro State college, hoping to concentrate her studies in film and television.  Prior to this, she received an Associates of Arts degree from The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts in 2005.  Maria swam for the Hurricanes since she was 7 years old. Her favorite strokes are the 100 Breastroke and the 500 Freestyle, where she qualified for the CHASSA High School State meet several years in a row.  She has spent many years coaching summer club teams and teaching swim lessons, and is thrilled to be working with the Hurricanes this summer.
The Hurricanes Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday, July 17th, at Church of the Hills on Buffalo Park Road.  The meeting will begin promptly at 5:30pm, with election of the new Board of Directors, followed by a presentation by Caryn Pearson on the team's financial status (how we'll end this year and what the proposed budget looks like for next year).  The meeting is expected to last no longer than one hour.  Coach Jeff plans to hold regular practice sessions that evening.
VACANT BOARD POSITIONS       Two members will be rotating off the Board in September:  Susan Kramer and Freda Malazdrewicz. The BOD currently has a vacancy in the Secretary's position, due to the recent resignation of Elaine Gillette.  This means 3 positions will be up for election in July at our AGM.  Susan McDonald, Caryn Pearson, and Mike Honnick have another year to fulfill in their two year terms.  If you are interested in becoming a Board member, please submit your name to any of these people by July 2nd.
