HURRICANES KEEP EYE ON LONG COURSE SEASON
Riding on the tremendous success of their short course season (15th place overall out of 72 Colorado teams; over 80% personal best swims by our athletes during competition; 21 Silver State qualifiers; 13 State qualifiers; 4 Senior State qualifiers; and, 85% average team attendence at meets), the Hurricanes are looking forward to the spring and summer months with great anticipation.
The first opportunity to demonstrate their strength in the pool will be at the TOPS Long Course Open meet on April 25-27, where 45 athletes will represent the team at the first meet of this new season. Go Hurricanes!
MAY BRINGS CHANGES TO TEAM
Swimmers go back to 'basic training' this month with a renewed emphasis on stroke technique, turns, and pullouts. "The start of a new season is the best time to change, correct, or refine swimmers' technique," says Coach Jeff.
May 15 is the last opportunity for the summer club swimmers from Mt. Vernon, Hiwan, or Genesee to swim with the Hurricanes. According to the head official of the Colorado Summer League, 'on or after May 16, kids are allowed to practice and compete only for their summer club (interscholastic practices and competition are excluded from this ruling). If a swimmer swims in a USA Swim meet OR for a USS Swim Club after that date, they are ineligible to compete in summer league meets and state championships.' If you haven't already done so, please be sure to let Coach Jeff and Caryn Pearson, our Treasurer, know if you are planning on taking a break from the Hurricanes over the summer.
MONTHLY BOARD MEETING
The BOD will meet on Monday, April 14 from 5:30pm-7:30pm in the conference room at Wulf Recreation Center. Our meetings are open to all members and are a great way to find out what's involved with running the team. Have a question or concern or idea to improve the Hurricanes? Thinking about filling an empty seat on next year's board? Then you may want to join us...we'd love to have you!
Our team continues to grow, with 57 full-time registrations and 3 new punch card swimmers. Welcome to our newest Hurricanes members: Kent Dutkiewicz, Holly Fortik, Natalie Kenchel, Krista Lance, Andrew Mieloch, and Kat O'Malley, and our punch card swimmers: Heidi Hathorne, Hayden Cogswell, and Jack Hays.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR OUR TEAM CELEBRATION
Coach Jeff has decided to celebrate our team success with a pizza and bowling party on Sunday, May 4 following our home meet. The party will take place at Brunswick Lanes from 2-5pm. This event will replace the annual awards banquet. Watch your swimmer's folder next week for a flyer outlining additional details and RSVP information.
A new pricing structure will take effect for the months of June and July. All families will be billed on a monthly basis for their dues and meet entries. Category 1 swimmers will pay $70/mo., Category 2 will pay $90/mo., and Category 3 will pay $110/month, plus any meet entry fees. Questions? Contact Caryn Pearson at email@example.com
MAY 4TH IS OUR LAST HOME MEET
We will host our last SLQ meet of the season on Sunday, May 4th from 8am-12:30pm. To date, our home meets have raised over $4,300 for the team. Watch for your volunteer assignments later this month. And, be sure to notify Coach Jeff if your child is not going to compete.
