Evergreen Hurricanes Newsletter May 28, 2009

Kelly Dunbar is from Williamsburg, VA, and has been swimming since she was four years old. In the fall, Kelly will be a sophomore at Washington College in Maryland where she is majoring in environmental studies and is on the varsity swim team. Kelly lettered all four years at Lafayette High School, making it back to finals and earning points every year at State. In college, Kelly qualified for the Centennial Conference Championships hosted by Franklin & Marshall and placed in the 400 I.M. and 200 I.M. She is very excited to working with Category 1 and training with Category 3 at high altitude!

On Monday, June 1, we will switch to the summer schedule.  All the times and the meet schedule can be found on the website.  Remember to check Coach Jeff's Blog frequently for team news. Those swimmers who are taking a break from the Hurricanes for summer need to send in a $50 retainer fee to hold their place for September.  The fee will be applied to registration fees.

It is almost time for the Florida trip!  There will be a mandatory meeting for parents and swimmers on Wednesday, June 10, at 5pm at the pool, and the final payment is due then.

The next BOD meeting is Monday, June 8, from 6:30-8:00pm at the pool.

We are still looking for a few people to serve on the incoming board which will be seated in September.  We have a great team, thanks to our coaches and the able direction of our all-volunteer board.  It is important to have new energy and ideas, so board members can only serve 2 years in a row.  Please consider giving your time to help keep our team running smoothly.  Contact Kathy Lahr at 303-570-8251 to talk about the possibilities for sharing your talents with the team. Our team bylaws require that board elections be held at the Annual General Meeting in July (date to be announced after the June board meeting).

You should have already received your tickets. Thanks to Tobia Zehnder for coordinating this team event.  See you in the Rock Pile!

Order forms went into the folders last week.  This summer, the shirts will be yellow with "Summer 2009" on the front and have a map of Colorado, with Evergreen highlighted on it, on the back.  Get your "limited edition" tshirt for only $10!  Turn in your order forms to Coach Jeff by Tuesday; you will be billed for the shirts.

Next time you see Kelly, make sure to thank her for stepping up to chair concessions for our home meets next  year.  She did a terrific job at the May meet, and we really appreciate her willingness to help out.

WOW! Our swimmers gave their all at the first long course meet of the season.  Special congratulations go out to Josie Pearson, for breaking the team record for 11-12 girls 200 Fly, and Jordyn Butler, for breaking the 13-14 boys 800 Free team record.

Brandon is having a great month - he got his first Sectionals cut in the 100 Breast at the NorthJeffCo meet, was accepted at the U.S. Air Force Academy. Congratulations, Brandon!

The dates for the home meets have been set, so you can mark your calendars: Sunday, Sept 27; Sunday, Nov 15; Saturday & Sunday, Feb 6 & 7; Sunday, March 21; and Sunday, May 2.
