Evergreen Hurricanes Newsletter July 30, 2009

Wow!  Our team was represented by 21 swimmers at the Long Course State Championship Meet in Fort Collins, from July 24-27, and finished 10th out of 44 teams.  It was an amazing meet with many record breaking swims.  The highlights are almost too numerous to mention - but we will try!  Josie Peason swam seven individual events and broke team records in all seven; Lindsay Morrow broke team records in the 50, 100, and 200 backstroke; Anna McDonald swam a 32:18 to break the team record in the 11/12 50 fly; Lexie Malazdrewicz broke the team record for the 200 fly; and Ben Holland swam the 800 free in 9:57:78 for a team record.  We had several dynamite relay teams, too,  who swam their fastest and helped our team gain the 10th place ranking.

The new team suits, Speedo Endurance + flyback and jammers, are ready for purchase via the Lifeguard Store.  The suits are basic black with a white Hurricanes logo.  Order your as soon as possible to avoid the September rush when all teams are placing their orders.

We averaged 78 swimmers on our roster all summer, even though many families took a break from the Hurricanes for travel plans or summer swim team.  We hope that those who just joined this summer will become part of the year-around Hurricanes family.

MANY THANKS TO COACH JEFF, COACH JULIA, COACH KELLY, and COACH LISA for all their excellent work with our swimmers this summer.  We hope you all relax during a well-deserved break.  Best of luck to Coach Kelly as she returns home to Virginia - it has been great having her with us this summer!

ALOHA and CONGRATULATIONS to Kara CHurricane Alert -June 2009oughlin, Josie Pearson, Lindsay Morrow, Tyler Slone, and Lexie Malaxdrewicz, who have all qualified for the Colorado Team for the Western Zones meet in Hawaii.
Our last team practice for the long course season is this Friday, July 31.  We will be on break until practice starts again on Monday, September 14.
Caryn Pearson will be emailing out invoices for the 09/10 season on August 15.  You will be invoiced based on the payment plan you selected last year, unless you have notified Caryn that you wish to change to a different option.  Payments will be due on September 11.  The options are to pay fees and monthly dues in full (which gives you a discount of one month of dues); pay in three installments, or pay all fees upfront and dues monthly.  Meet entry fees are charged on a monthly basis.
Many thanks to all those who came in and voted for the incoming Board of Directors. We appreciate your support.  The new Board will be seated at the August meeting.

Congratulations to ALL the swimmers who worked hard, played hard, and swam their best throughout Long Course.
